Drop your to-do list

I wanna talk to you about what the six percenters did differently that is extremely important. And I call it the law of specification.

You know, everybody in the world says, yeah, I’m gonna do this thing. People create lists. I’m gonna do this and this and this and this and that. Drop it, very quickly.

The six percenters were extremely specific and granular when they pledged to do something. Why? Because we’re working against our own brain.

If you have a neural pathway in your brain of, I’m gonna say that I go to the gym, but I’m gonna drop it within like February. I’m gonna say that I’ll be present with my team, but then I get busy and I don’t actually do it. I’m gonna change my eating habits. And then you get really busy, you don’t have the time to follow through. And you say, it happens to me over and over again. That’s your neural pathway in your brain.

It takes about 30 days to start a new one, a new neural pathway in your brain. And your brain is pulling you towards that bad deal. The brain says, can we just do what we know how to do already? Come on.

The more specific you are, the more granular you are in the way you set your goals and in the way you follow through. The more you tell your brain, I mean business. Okay, I don’t care about you conserving energy. This is what we’re doing right now.
